IMPACTS

The Center for Innovation Ethics supports the Innovations Material Properties Affecting Culture, Technology, and Society (IMPACTS) group which studies the historical and personal impacts of entrepreneurship and innovation.

1. Quality of outcome for average entrepreneur, with outputs including a longer research paper, a short policy brief, and a short primer for would-be entrepreneurs.

  • 1a. Qualitative survey of SV VCs, founders, and early stage employees to ask about perceived outcomes, important variables that are decision-relevant, identify what they're curious about.

  • 1b. Track outcomes.

2. Research agenda: how innovation diffuses through the economy

  • 2A. Look at specific historical new technologies, like washing machines and dryers and dishwashers, and produce data on price trends and home penetration. Similarly examine airplane use, train use, etc. Look for historical trends, with the goal of seeing whether current innovations seem on-track to meet, beat, or underperform historical spread.

  • 2B. Focus on how the decently-studied low capture rate of social benefits by innovative firms changes under various regimes: are the benefits of monopolies here that large in practice?
